I presume this is a cross realm issue, but why is it that we can communicate and play, but can’t be in the same guild? Officers can’t invite him either. My friend can apply to the guild, but his name does not show up in the list. Can a guild from another server invite me?

If realms are “connected” (in other words, merged), the guilds are effectively part of the same community. Not sure what you are doing as I just created a second WoW starter edition account, created a character on the same realm. Logged in and could find my other character, add as a friend and be in the same group (same realm).
